Homemade Chocolate Buns (Soft & Fluffy)
These homemade chocolate buns are light, pillowy, and filled with rich chocolate. Perfect for breakfast, afternoon tea, or a sweet treat, they stay soft for days and taste just like bakery buns—if not better.
Ingredients
Dough
-
3½ cups (440 g) all-purpose flour
-
¼ cup (50 g) sugar
-
2¼ tsp (7 g) instant yeast
-
1 tsp salt
-
¾ cup (180 ml) warm milk
-
1 large egg
-
¼ cup (60 g) melted butter or oil
Filling
-
150 g chocolate chips or chopped chocolate
(or chocolate spread)
Topping (optional)
-
1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
-
Powdered sugar or melted chocolate
Instructions
1. Make the Dough
In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Add warm milk, egg, and melted butter. Mix until a soft dough forms.
Knead for 8–10 minutes by hand (or 5 minutes in a mixer) until smooth and elastic.
2. First Rise
Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1–1½ hours, or until doubled in size.
3. Shape the Buns
Punch down the dough and divide into 10–12 pieces. Flatten each piece, add chocolate to the center, then seal and roll into a ball.
Place buns seam-side down on a lined baking tray.
4. Second Rise
Cover and let rise again for 30–40 minutes, until puffy.
5. Bake
Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
Brush buns with egg wash if desired.
Bake for 15–18 minutes, until golden.
